What We’ll Need to Help Troubleshoot
Application Version Number
This is shown in the upper right corner of the dashboard.
Firmware Version Number
This is shown when you open the “Check for Updates” tab in the dashboard.

Unit Does Not Power On
Most likely there is an issue with the power or ground input to the unit.
Wiring Notes
Green with yellow stripe wire = signal output to the cluster and ECU
Black with red stripe wire = ground to the unit.
This comes from the engine grounds on the intake manifold.
Red = 12v key on power to the unit
Solutions
Check power to the unit at the vehicle speed sensor connector.
Check to see if the reverse lights are working
If the reverse lights work
Verify manually with a multimeter you have power at the red wire
If it does not have power, then
check the backup light fuse
If the backup light fuse is blown, replace and recheck
If the backup light fuse is not blown, verify manually with a multimeter you have power at the red wire
- If power is verified at the red wire, then move to check the ground circuit via the black with red stripe wire.
The ground for the unit comes through the harness via the intake manifold grounds.
These are the same grounds for the ECU.
Auto to Manual Conversion
The iVSS is designed with the expectation of a manual application, so if the vehicle started as a manual application, the auto-to-manual conversion wiring must be done first. The VSS wiring is the most important because the iVSS relies on this to get power, ground, and signal.
VSS Connections Required on the chassis side
You’ll need the mating connector for the iVSS on the chassis side to provide the necessary wiring to the iVSS.
If the vehicle is a turbo model, this pigtail is required.
If the vehicle is a non-turbo model, this pigtail is required.
Connection Overview
Green w/Yellow Stripe - Signal Wire
This needs to be tied into the vehicle inside the cabin because the wiring does not exist in the engine bay in automatic models.
This wire will run from the ECU to the TCU to the gauge cluster.
You can tap into this wire at any point, and all components will get the speed information from the iVSS
Black w/Red Stripe - Ground
This wire runs from the intake manifold to the ECU for critical grounding.
We recommend tying into this wire, but a standard chassis ground, as long as it’s clean, should work.
Red - 12v ignition
This wire can be tied into the power that feeds the reverse lights on the old automatic transmission plug.
Ensure that this is only powered with the key in the “on” position, not “accessory” or tied directly to the battery.
Issues with Bluetooth Connection to Unit from App
Verify the setting on your phone to allow Bluetooth connections through the iWire App
Close and restart the app
Restart the unit by cycling the vehicle key
No Speed Output to Gague Cluster or Intermittent Signal to Cluster
The most common reason for this issue is that the wheel speed sensor is worn out. The threshold for the wheel speed signal out to the ABS unit to function is lower than the signal required for the iVSS to output vehicle speed.
Solutions if no ABS light
Switch the connection point for the iVSS to the other corner.
If that gets the speed sensor working, you can either;
Leave it connected to the corner
Replace the wheel speed sensor on the original corner
Solutions with ABS light
Use a scan tool to communicate with the ABS unit to determine the fault and repair.
You do not need functioning ABS for the iVSS to work, just a good wheel speed sensor. Scanning the ABS can give you a concrete answer to note if the problem lies with the wheel speed sensor.
Intermittent Reading during or after Calibration
The first step is to reset the device to factory defaults. Drive the car without pairing the device to your phone to set a baseline, then reconnect the app.
